Fúinn

Tháinig an Dr. Pallister go Montana lena bhean chéile i 1947 mar liachleachtóir ginearálta agus chun obair in institiúid do dhaoine faoi mhíchumas meabhrach. Le linn a chuid ama ansin bhí baint aige le hiarrachtaí diagnóiseacha cúram agus cóireáil níos fearr a sholáthar do na cónaitheoirí.

Thar na blianta mheall sé a lán mac léinn, géineolaitheoirí, máinlianna agus gairmithe eile le teacht chuig an institiúid. Le himeacht aimsire, thosaigh an Dr. Pallister ag fíochán a chaomhnú ó gach othar nach ndearna diagnóis d’fhonn cabhrú le diagnóis níos déanaí.

I 1963 chuir an Dr. Pallister agus an dochtúir an Dr. J. Allen Miller tús le hanailísí crómasóim. Ag an am seo, bhí dhá othar san institiúid, fear sna tríochaidí déanacha aige agus cailín sé bliana déag d’aois, a roinn go leor tréithe comhchosúla lena n-áirítear an crómasóim beag breise a aimsíodh i ngach othar. Bhí an Dr. Pallister cinnte go raibh an riocht céanna orthu. Tar éis tuilleadh staidéir le lianna eile, fuarthas amach go raibh an t-isochromosóim ag an mbeirt acu ag táirgeadh ceithre chóip den lámh ghearr de chrómasóim 12.

Tugtar Siondróm Mosaic Pallister-Killian air anois. Tháinig an Dr. Pallister go grásta chuig an gcéad chomhdháil leighis PKS a tionóladh in Ospidéal Leanaí Philadelphia i 2006 agus bhuail sé le go leor teaghlaigh leanaí le PKS.Dr. Bhí 15 leanbh ag Pallister agus a bhean Willa, “Willie”.

Bhí sé féin agus a mhac Adam, a bhfuil mínormáltacht crómasóim aimsithe aige le déanaí, ina gcónaí i gcnoic Montana. Chaith siad an chuid is mó dá gcuid ama ag obair ar an feirm, ag fiach, ag garraíodóireacht, agus ag deisiú carranna, tarracóirí agus trealaimh.

Ar an 11 Iúil 2014, cuireadh fáilte roimh an Dr. Pallister as a chuid oibre den scoth ag Iubhaile mar onóir dó.

Ar 9 Márta, 2018, d’éag Ol ’Phil sa bhaile.

Dr. Pallister

In 1963 Dr. Pallister and physician Dr. J. Allen Miller began chromosome analyses. At this time, there were two patients in the institution, a man in his late thirties and a sixteen-year-old girl, who shared many similar characteristics including the extra small chromosome that was discovered in each patient. Dr. Pallister was convinced they had the same condition. After further study with other physicians, they were both found to have the isochromosome producing four copies of the short arm of chromosome 12.

It is now known as Pallister-Killian Mosaic Syndrome. Dr. Pallister graciously came to the first PKS medical conference held at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2006 and met many families of children with PKS.Dr. Pallister and his wife Willa, “Willie” had 15 children.
